Programs
Our rehabilitation programs assist injured and orphaned wildlife in many ways. Injured animals are given medical attention from our veterinary support team and then cared for in a natural setting until they make a full recovery and then freed. Orphaned infants are bottle fed until old enough for their species’ natural diet. Foraging and survival behavior is then taught by our wildlife rehabilitators when necessary and patients are watched carefully for healthy natural development. When the orphans are old enough and skilled enough to survive on their own, they are released back into the wild for their second chance at a wild life.
Our toll free hotline guides the community through many wildlife questions and we help solve problems that might otherwise result in an animal in distress and in need of rehabilitation. We help determine whether or not an animal is truly orphaned or simply exhibiting natural behaviors. We try to reunite the animal with its natural mother whenever possible.
Our education programs speak to children’s groups in the area, teaching them about our wildlife’s natural behavior and the consequences our actions have on them. We also view each hotline call as an opportunity to educate our neighbors on natural history and how to peacefully coexist with our native wildlife.
Our apprenticeship programs train and support new wildlife rehabilitators. There is an increasing need for wildlife rehabilitators in our area. We recruit new apprentice rehabilitators each year to address this need and increase the number of wild animals that we can effectively care for.
