Animal Care Assistant
If you would like to help injured and orphaned wildlife but cannot commit to their full-time care, this may be the perfect way for you to get involved. We would like individuals, 18 or older, to volunteer a few hours per week to help at our 2 Stamford locations. Dedicated volunteers in this area enable us to adequately care for more animals than otherwise possible.
Duties include:
• cleaning of cages and supplies
• preparing food for the animals
• other daily tasks as assigned

Skills Required: None but volunteer must be in good physical condition with no immune deficiencies.
Place: Stamford
Time: At least once a week, 2 hours per visit. Time of day to be
arranged. Volunteers must commit to a 1 month schedule.

Clerical
Volunteer needed for sorting, filing, bulk mail, making copies, Christmas cards, etc.
Skills Required: Organizational skills
Place: Off-site or in Stamford depending on project
Time: Average 2 hours per month

Creative Writer
We are in need of creative writers for our bi-annual newsletter
• Writers can choose from a list of available topics
• Articles are due within 2 weeks of assignment
• Submitted articles are subject to editing for space and context
• Credit will be given for each article used
Skills Required: Good command of the English language and good storytelling ability. Please submit samples.
Place: Off site via email
Time: Varies by topic chosen

Fundraiser
Creative individual needed to develop, organize and implement fundraisers (large or small) for our organization.
Skills required: Be familiar with fundraising for non-profit organizations. Have experience with coordination of events. Strong
organizational and communication skills.
Place: Lower Fairfield County
Time: Flexible but must create at least 2 fundraisers per year

Grant Writer
The Wildlife Orphanage is looking for a person to assume responsiblity for preparing grant applications to local and national organizations and foundations. Funding will be used to further our work with injured and orphaned wildlife. Our objective at this time is to obtain $30K per year for operating expenses.
Skills required: Previous grant experience. Initial grants leads will be provided.
Requirements: A successful grant award track record. The ability to do internet searches. Good grammar and command of the English language. Thorough understanding of our mission and goals.
Place: Anywhere, utilizing email after initial interview/meeting

Graphic Designer for Newsletter Layout
The Wildlife Orphanage is in need of an experienced graphic designer to handle layout for our newsletters. Newsletter content will be provided. Newsletters are currently bi-annual and will require layout in April and October.
Skills required: Experience using Quark Xpress; the ability to complete work within deadline
Requirements: Approx. 10 hours, 2 times per year to start. Please submit samples of your work.
Place: Anywhere, utilizing email

Handyman
• Build/assemble animal enclosure panels (construction can take place off site)
• Build/assemble animal nest boxes (construction can take place off site)
• Provide elements for habitat enrichment in animal enclosures (tire swing, climbing branches, etc.)
• Mount squirrel cages, nest boxes and feeders on various trees and/or outbuildings
• Assemble/install small outdoor pond as post-release water source
• Assemble carport/canopy to provide dry storage outdoors for portable cages
• Install fence and gates to seclude rehabilitation area from humans/petsPlace: Stamford
Skills Required:
Volunteer must be
• in good physical condition
• Comfortable working with a variety of common household power tools (circular saw, drill/driver, etc.)
• able to accurately measure wood and cut in a straight line
Time: Flexible, as needed

Nut Gathering
Though this may sound like a silly activity, it really isn’t. We try to provide as natural a diet as possible for the wildlife in our care and many animals depend on nuts as a food source. It’s also important for our Spring orphans to be able to recognize natural food sources from the wild, so we need to give them nuts even though they’d be out of season. Since nuts freeze really well, this poses no problem and for these reasons we really can’t have too many.
Requirements: Nuts may need to be shipped if out of state
Skills Required: None/Great for kids

Operational Assistant
Help us grow by providing support services to organization staff and developing a framework for growth. Detail-oriented, reliable volunteer needed to maintain inventory of supplies, catalog reference material, file, make copies, etc. at Executive Director’s home office in Stamford, CT.  Computer skills, email access and own transportation required. Approx. 3 hours per month for 6 months.
Time: Year round

Photographer
Experienced photographer wanted to take photos of animals in our care or being cared for. Photos will be used for publicity (website, brochures, etc.) and for our own use (i.e. training manuals) and credit will be given for each photo. The photo and negatives will, however, become our property and will be used, or not used, at our discretion.
Skills Required: Photographic experience, preferably with a portfolio or other examples of skill. Digital photos a plus.
Place: Stamford
Time: Intermittently throughout the rehabilitation season (March-October) depending on species in our care and our upcoming photographic needs.

Plumber
Volunteer needed to provide running water to outbuilding and to install dishwasher, washing machine, and sink into garage.
Skills Required: Prior plumbing experience
Place: Stamford

Public Speaker
If you enjoy giving presentations to both children and adults and enjoy talking about animals this could be a great opportunity for you.
Duties include:
• Giving PowerPoint presentations (content to be provided)
• Props and in some cases live animals (and their handlers) will be provided
• Training will be provided
• Lectures can be given by more than one individualSkills Required: Volunteer must
• be comfortable speaking to large groups of all ages in a variety setting (formal/informal)
• have the ability to capture and hold the interest of the audience
• be familiar with laptop computers and LCD projectors
• have good command of the English language and speak clearly
Time: 2 hours per venue

Printing Services
Discounted or donated printing services for our newsletter, brochure, educational materials, etc... Credit will be given in all materials printed on our behalf.
Details: Approx. 6000 newsletters, bi-annually, black & white, 4-6 pages, 5000 annual tri-fold full color brochures, copies of educational materials, 1000 pages total annually

Supplies Solicitor
Use your interpersonal skills to help local wildlife! Self-motivated volunteers needed to acquire as many donated supplies as possible to help conserve funds. Use your salesperson/marketing personality and skills to solicit donations of food & supplies from the community. Email access and 8 hours per month for 3 months required.
Requirements: Car

None
Time: Year round

Veterinarian
Volunteer veterinarian (retired or practicing) to serve on a consultant basis for wild animals in our care. Duties would include giving advice on efficacy of medications and/or treatments being used to treat different ailments as well as diagnosis and treatment recommendations for minor ailments (no Xrays or surgeries). Our intent is to lesson the demands we
place on our existing partner veterinarians so as not to wear out our welcome with the non-life threatening injuries and ailments we routinely handle as well as to expand our own knowledge.
Skills Required: 5+ years as a practicing veterinarian. Experience with wildlife a plus, but not required.
Place: Off-site or on-site, at the volunteer's discretion
Time: Intermittant throughout the year with the largest demand for consultant services being from March - Septemer (our busy season).

Wildlife Rescue
Save wildlife in your spare time!
After attending 1 training class (TBA), volunteers will go out in the field to assist the public, attempt to reunite baby wild animals with their parent(s) and contain/transport baby wild animals to our network of rehabilitators or veterinarians, as directed. This position fits any schedule as participation varies based on need and the volunteer’s own availability at that time of need.  This intermittent participation requires light recordkeeping, interpersonal skills, own transportation and a desire to help wildlife in need.

Time: March through October
